Helena Ganjalyan and Bartosz Szpak are a multi-disciplinary, dynamic directors duo. Helena is a graduate of the Academy of Theater Arts St. Wyspianski in Krakow, Bartek graduated from the Lodz Film School.
For many years, they have been working simultaneously in various creative fields – they both have acting education and experience, Helena’s background is also choreography, theater direction and photography, and Bartek’s music composition and directing audio productions.
They have worked with such brands as Google, Samsung, PUMA, Coca-Cola, Audi, Hertz, mBank, Audioteka, Disney, Virgin Mobile, Pernod Ricard. Their film „JA” for the Tyskie brand was awarded the Grand Prix and the 1st Prize in the Branded Stories category in Papaya Young Directors 2020.
They have knack for music videos, and the projects they create are included in the lists of the most interesting clips every year. They are currently developing two feature films. One of them has recently finished the development stage, for which they received support from the Polish Film Institute.
Their acting background allows them to lead actors in a very precise manner, formulate clear, effective tasks and create organic, vivid dialogue. They cast with an emphasis on personality and chemistry, choosing to work with people who effortlessly add depth to the story.
She takes interest in detailed examination of analogies in seemingly incompatible areas and looking for the right perspective that can change one’s perception. She is inspired by non-obvious tensions and connections between narrative elements. She tries to activate the viewer’s imagination through original combinations that create new contexts, and thus new meanings.
In all his projects, he tries to look for interesting combinations of styles, juxtapose distant moods and create a narrative vibe. After years of writing music and creating audio series, he perceives many elements of film production through sound – he works with rhythms, rich layers, and harmony.
They treat all their fields of activity as a set of interconnected vessels and try to let the experience and skills acquired in each of them influence one another.
Whether it’s through their sense of humour or their ability to craft exceptional atmospheres, Helena and Bartek always seek to create visually striking and self contained universes. Their creative process is characterized by attention to detail, precise planning and searching for the best visual form for the stories told. Their work recognizes the extraordinary in the ordinary – always with a human story at its core – realistic or abstract.
